QUETTA: Security forces killed the leader of a banned militant organisation, Baloch Liberation Army, blamed for a deadly insurgency in Balochistan.

A spokesperson of BLA from undisclosed location claimed that Nawabzada Balach Marri was killed during attack of security forces. However, he evaded to tell about the location where he was killed.

Other reports said Balach Marri with his two accompanies was entering Pakistan from Iran when he clashed with forces in Sarlat area of Naushki and was killed there. A spokesman of Marri Itehad said that he was killed in Balochistan but did not mention the place of the incident.

Guzain Marri, the brother of Balach Marri, confirmed murder of Balach but refused to give details of the incident.

He confirmed Balach's murder but he did not give details of the incident. He said if he disclosed the location then it could put their men in danger.

When asked about the Balach burial, he said it would be decided with the consent of all the family members. He said they would not repeat the sad incident of Nawab Akbar Bugti who was laid to rest in the absence of the family members.

The news of Balach's murder spread like a fire in jungle especially in Balochistan. Riots erupted in Quetta, Khuzdar, Naushki, Turbat, Gawadar and other areas. At least five people including three policemen were killed and five police officials injured in different incidents.

The protesters attacked a police van and killed two constables and injured three others including an inspector at Brewery road.

In another incident, unknown people opened indiscriminate fire at a shop in Qalat Street in Satellite town. The incident resulted in killing of an IB sub inspector and two others, said DIG Rahmatullah Niazi.

The angry mob also hurled a grenade at two constables deployed near a grid station at Saryab road. Both the constables were injured.

Saryab Road remained more tensed area where protestors blocked the road and pelted stones at government buildings and vehicles.

Election commission office was ransacked in Naushki and a vehicle was put on fire. The office record of the election commission Naushki office was also burnt. The office of the Punjabi Ittehad was destroyed at Kwari road.

Four explosions were reported from Mastung district where a telephone cabinet was destroyed and a school wall was damaged.

Students also came out in Khuzdar. They attacked a bank and some shops and damaged them. About 30 people most of them students were arrested for creating law and order situation by resorting to violence.

Police officials said that security had been beefed up to avert any untoward incident in the city. A large number of police and Frontier Corps contingents had been deployed to control law and order in the city.

Nawabzada Mir Balach Marri son of Nawab Khair Bakhsh Mari was born in 1966 in Quetta and got his primary education from Grammar School, Quetta. Later, Nawab Khair Bakhsh Mari migrated to Afghanistan with his family members. Balach completed his secondary school education there. Then he went to Moscow and got degree in engineering and communication from Moscow University. He returned Pakistan in 1992 and participated in politics but left the country during early days of General Parvez Musharaf regime. He contested the election in exile in 2002 and won the provincial assembly seat with record number of votes. He attended the Balochistan Assembly session only once. He was not deseated despite various allegations.

He had repeatedly been offered ministries and other lucrative posts for supporting Pervez Musharraf but he turned down all the offers.

He was asked to meet President Musharraf during his (Musharraf) visit to Kohlu in 2005, but he refused. During visit of President Musharraf to Kohlu some Baloch militants fired rackets in the area. No body was injured in the incident, but 'apparently' this incident paved way for military operation in Kohlu and Dera Bugti.

The operation started on December 17 in Kohlu and on December 30, 2005 in Dera Bugti.

He was accused of creating unrest in the area and running some militants' training camps.

Balach, during his life, repeatedly said that they were fighting for their rights and for thier motherland and thier Nation.

He was accompanying Nawab Akbar Bugti at the time when Bugti was surrounded in Kohlu and Dera Bugti. On the orders of Bugti both Balach and Bugti's grandson Brahamdagh left the area.

After Bugti's killing, he remained silent. There were rumors that he settled himself in Afghanistan.
